Nintendo's Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong JR. arcade game boards generate negative inverted video. Since these boards create this negative video you cannot replace your DK or DKJr.'s monitor with an industry standard "regular" monitor without first inverting the color polarity. This has traditionally been done using an analog video inverter board which uses op-amps or transistors to reverse the video polarity. But there are problems using video inverters. First, you have to "splice in" the inverter somewhere in the wiring harness between the game board and the monitor. Then you have to wire up some kind of power supply to the inverter board. This can be confusing and messy, and sometimes temperature, humidity or vibration can cause the video inverter to mess up the colors.
